As the main liquid used in the vapor cauldrons is water, quality of the water we feed to the cauldron is of great importance in the aspect of vapor quality, cauldron efficiency, lifespan and economy. The devices for preparation of the feeding water need to be selected carefully. One of the devices used for making the feeding water as required is the water softening devices. The water softeners used for decreasing the hardness of the feeding water are used on their own or adjacently in accordance with the process applied in the installations and need of continuity.

The advantage of the adjacent devices is the while one tank washes itself (backwashing), the other may continue operation and so there is no interruption of the works.

WHAT DOES THE HARDNESS OF THE WATER RESULT IN?

Hardness of the water is the sum of Calcium - Ca and Magnesium - Mg compounds within the water. It is expressed in three different units in Turkey: mg/lt (CaCO3), Fransız (=10 mg/lt CaCO3), German type (=17,9mg/lt CaCO3).

Not assigning a water softening device results in stone constitution in the vapor cauldron and this results in great economic loss by decreasing the heat transmission, and so, the efficiency. It also causes the sheet iron at the flaming section of the cauldron to be overheated and lose their properties, and so decrease the lifespan of the cauldron.

The water hardness should be worked on in order to decrease to zero at the cauldron feeding tap. As a result of use of the water softening device, there shall not occur limestone thanks to high quality water and so the heat transmission and heat efficiency of the cauldron shall not be decreased, fuel economy shall be provided and maintenance shall be minimized.
